Brooke’s Story

I am a 23 year old Cosmetologist from Charlotte, NC. On June 30, 2019, I was in a tragic accident. I was a pedestrian struck by a car. This terrible accident left me with a C6 SCI and TBI. As a result, I am a quadriplegic with limited upper body movement.

I spent 8 months in various hospitals and rehab facilities and I endured multiple surgeries before being able to return home. Now that I am home, I’m focused on healing and regaining my strength. My long-term goal is to be able to do hair again.

This grant will help me to increase my confidence, gain strength, and give me more independence. Me and my family would love to see me reach my full potential. This grant will help me move in the right direction.

Brooke was also chosen to be our 2021 Dhiren D. Desai grant recipient. Her infectious smile and genuine friendliness ensures that she never meets a stranger, just like Dhiren. Her positive spin on just about anything is admirable. Brooke embodies what we loved about Dhiren and I know she would make him proud.
