My husband and I were getting ready to adopt our second child and were much anticipating its birth which would be in September, 2015. On the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, we took our boat out on Mountain Island Lake. My friend and I decided to try the rope swing that is commonly used on the lake. I fell from the rope swing too early and hit the sand instead of the water.
The near death fall resulted in a C3-C4 injury to my spine along with a broken ankle. I spent all of September in Carolinas Medical Center and then spent several months at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. I have since returned to my home in Charlotte. Although we were not able to fulfill our dream of a second child, I remain committed to getting all possible therapy to keep me strong for our son and hopefully someday, give him a hug.
