DEREK’S STORY

On October 19, 2014, when I was 23 years old, I was shot in the neck, in which I became paralyzed from the neck down. I was told I couldn’t speak or breathe on my own; but I have done this so far. I am feeling some things in my left knee area. I feel things that I am not or was told I couldn’t feel. I have a 6 year old son that has motivated me through some of my situations. I count on him daily. I would be blessed if I am able to accomplish more than I have been told. I try a lot on my own. My family is very supportive in everything I do, including hospital, outings, anything.
